What is Diversity?

Diversity in workplace(hands, n.d)
Canada is a very culturally diverse country with millions of people from different countries around the world. Ultimately, this has created a strong dynamic setting and has also helped develop a strong base for global opportunities. How do you define diversity? Diversity is defined as an inclusive environment accepting people of all kinds including but not limited to, religion, race, ethnicity, nationality, or sexual orientation (Smith, 2017). 

 In this blog, you will have the opportunity to know more about diversity in the workplace. Diversity in the workplace is when the staff in an organization are working in an environment where they are accepted and respected despite their different cultural background (Hood, 2018). It is an acceptance for everyone’s differences, and comprises strength and opportunity (ADCQ, 2013). Living in a multicultural city, we are currently working or will enter an organization that consist of a diverse environment. 

 A diverse workplace will hinder discrimination which will make the staff feel more comfortable and this will lead to increased work productivity. According to a report by Deloitte developed in 2013, due to a diverse environment the staff are able to be more innovative by 83% (Chignell, 2014). It is encouraged for an organization to keep a wide eye on maintaining a diverse workplace. It gives exposure to people with various perspectives, and ideas to help produce an effective business. As diversity is an extremely wide topic, in this blog we will focus on diversity in the workplace related to racial background. Also, this blog will contain information on how organizations and employees benefit from a diverse environment in the workplace. Furthermore, you will get a chance to read about the various ways companies can develop a diverse environment.

    I really liked reading your post because I believe diversity in a workplace is important. However, there are benefits as well as conflicts. I believe people should respect all individuals regardless of their own biases.
